My book is a bout a girl named Cassie who's parents died when she was four years old. She doesn't remember them, and she has been living with her grandma, Nan, ever since. ever since cassie was five years old she has seen people who are going to die; she sees a light glow around the outline of their body, and they always die hours later. Nan is the only one who knows, though. not even her best friends, Tasha, knows. One day during school, Cassie is called to the office and told that Nan is in the hospital. When Cassie gets there, she is frightened to see that Nan has the glow around her body. Hours later, Nan dies of a stroke and Cassie is sent to live with an Aunt that she didnt even know existed.
"As soom as I woke up, I knew she was gone. I could feel the cold in her hand. My face was wet before I even raised it from the bed where it had fallen. She was calm, her face serene and pale and statuesque in a way that made it clear that Nan, my vibrant, strong, loving, solid Nan, was gone. And so too was the light." This passage speaks to me because there is just so much emotion in every word that Cassie is speaking; you don't have to hear her saying it, to know. You just have to read it and you can feel all the grief.
